Welcome to the Karibu Edu Foundation
Sowing Opportunities for a Better Future

Life in Karibu

Our school
In 2021, we inaugurated the school in Makara, Zanzibar, where today 50 boys and girls have access to education and a chance to build a better future. This project began thanks to a group of 15 volunteers who spent 10 days building, decorating, and preparing the school so the children could start their classes as soon as possible.
Over the past four years, we have worked tirelessly to keep the school running, as it ensures that each child receives at least one meal a day.
You can’t imagine how incredible it is to see these children learn, play, and grow every day, knowing they now have a real opportunity for the future.
Our Agriculture Center
Karibu’s Agriculture Centre is a project that not only promotes sustainable development but is also designed to create opportunities, empower communities, and fight hunger.
Through this initiative, we teach local youth and adults how to cultivate the land, providing them with a skill that can help them build a more stable future. Additionally, part of the harvest is distributed to villages facing extreme poverty, ensuring food reaches those who need it most.
In many communities across Zanzibar, the lack of employment and resources makes it difficult to access a dignified life. That’s why we aim to offer real tools so that people can build their own future.

Our community health program
Can you imagine waking up one day at home and realizing your period has started? What’s the first thing you’d do? Probably go clean yourself up and use a pad, right? Seems obvious. But now… imagine waking up in the same situation and not having access to clean water—not even to drink. Will you have enough to clean yourself? You don’t even have money to buy shoes—do you think you’ll be able to afford menstrual pads? The answer is no.
It sounds unimaginable, but this is the reality for millions of women in Africa who lack access to clean water and menstrual hygiene products. Many are forced to use tree leaves, old rags, or even mattress stuffing to absorb their bleeding. It’s not just uncomfortable—it’s unsanitary and dangerous.
At Karibu Edu Foundation, we believe no woman should have to live like this. We work to ensure that every woman has access to a dignified, clean, and safe menstrual experience. Through education and the distribution of sustainable menstrual products, we fight to give them back something essential: health and dignity.
Our volunteering program
Our volunteer program is a unique experience that allows you to actively contribute to improving the quality of life for children and teenagers in local communities. From June to December, you can join one of two monthly groups, each made up of 10 people, and take part in educational, health, and social activities in schools and communities.
Throughout the week, you’ll participate in various volunteer initiatives, helping to strengthen key projects that support the development of these communities. You’ll also have the chance to explore the island in a sustainable way, enjoying conscious tourism that directly benefits the local people.
